Slips, Trips and Falls

Compared to some of the accidents we deal with at Compensation Claim, such as road traffic accidents, cases of medical negligence and criminal injury, the thought of a slip, trip or fall may seem, at first glance, to be fairly trivial. In actuality, however, a trip or a fall can be a very serious matter indeed. If you land well then it could be that you can just get up, dust yourself down and carry on walking, but, in the event of landing heavily or awkwardly, it’s possible for a seemingly simple fall to cause major long term damage to a person. This injury could take the form of a twist, sprain or bruising which could see you out of action and unable to work, thus losing money. In the worst cases, a fall could lead to a head or spine injury which would have serious long term ramifications, affecting the life of the victim for years to come.

In order to make a successful claim for compensation following a fall it will be necessary to demonstrate that the fall in question was caused by someone else’s negligence. It could be that you’ve fallen whilst at work, tripping over unsafe cables or loose wiring. In a case such as this, you may be able to claim compensation from your employer, on the grounds that they have failed to maintain a safe working environment.

Our expert injury solicitors will be able to explain your position regarding employment law, and the fact that no employer will be allowed to harass, mistreat or dismiss a member of staff who makes a compensation claim. In this way you can be reassured that slipping and falling at work is not just something which you have to put up with, but, on the contrary, is a situation which should see you able to claim the compensation to help make up for the suffering that’s been caused.

Not all slips and trips take place in the workplace, of course. If you fall in any public place and you can demonstrate that it was caused by the negligence of the people responsible for that place then you should be able to make them reimburse you for any expenses incurred and compensate you for the pain, stress and trauma that have been caused. It could be that you slip whilst shopping in a supermarket, on a puddle of spilt liquid which ought to have been cleaned up or cordoned off, or perhaps you’re innocently walking along the pavement and come to grief over a damaged and obtrusive paving stone which has been in this dangerous condition long enough for the local council to have fixed it.
